Masagana Cares: Extending Help to Communities Hit by Typhoon Tino in the Philippines
At Masagana Oriental, we believe that true success is measured not by what we gain, but by how much we give back. Through our Masagana Cares initiative, we are committed to supporting both our local and global communities — especially in times of great need.
Recently, the Philippines was struck by a devastating 6.9 magnitude earthquake followed closely by Typhoon Tino, causing widespread damage and hardship in areas like Bogo City, Cebu. Families have lost homes, livelihoods, and loved ones. In response, Masagana is launching a fundraising effort to help bring relief and hope to those affected.
In response, we launched a donation drive to extend help to those impacted. Thanks to your generosity and support, we were able to send much-needed aid and show our kababayans that they are not alone.
In this blog, we share why this cause mattered deeply to us, how your support made a difference, and how Masagana will continue to stand with communities in times of crisis.
From Quake to Typhoon
Masagana Cares in Action
At Masagana Oriental, we’ve always believed that being part of a community means showing up when it matters most. When we saw the heartbreaking images and heard the stories coming out of Cebu — homes underwater, families sleeping outside, roads impassable, and communities still recovering from the earthquake — we knew we had to act.
Through Masagana Cares, we launched a fundraising drive to extend our help beyond the aisles of our stores and into the lives of those affected in the Philippines. This initiative was our way of standing in solidarity with our kababayans who were hit hard by both the earthquake and Typhoon Tino.
This wasn’t just about giving goods. It was about sending a message: you are not alone. We may be thousands of kilometres away here in Sydney, but we are one community — and when one part of our Filipino family is hurting, we all feel it.
Your support — whether through donations, shopping at Masagana, or helping spread the word — made it possible to bring relief and hope to those who needed it most.
What We Achieved Together
Thanks to the generosity and support of our Masagana community — across Ashfield, Campsie, Rockdale, online, and our own team — we were able to make a real difference in the lives of those affected by the Typhoon Tino in Cebu.
With the funds raised, we were able to purchase and deliver:
and brought them to two hard-hit locations affected by Typhoon Tino
Receipts and Breakdown
transportation costs, including fuel, driver, and local delivery fees were also covered
The remaining ₱1,930 PHP and $140 AUD will be allocated to our next Masagana Cares outreach, ensuring your support continues to reach those who need it most.
Thank You for Being Part of This
What started as a small idea — a simple donation box at our stores — turned into something far more powerful: a movement of care, community, and compassion. This effort reminded us that no matter where we are in the world, we can still uplift others through even the smallest acts of kindness.
Your contributions, big or small, helped feed families, rebuild hope, and prove that Filipino bayanihan is alive and well — even from across the seas.
